NEW LONDON, Conn. — The Amistad sailed into New London on a brand new journey after surviving the rough seas of past mismanagement.

‘Discovering Amistad’ is the new non-profit educational organization guiding the slave ship replica. The ship now has new sails, new engines, and the woodwork has been refinished.

It’s mission is to educate on race relations and social justice by remembering the history of slavery.

“Story about slavery, story about freedom. Story about oppression, story about empowerment. So we can bring it all together and also by the way have an example of how people working together of different races can get things done,” said Chairman of the Board Len Miller.

The Amistad will be docked in New London, New Haven, and Bridgeport as a floating classroom.
