Rev. Dr. Penny Gadzini

Rev. Dr. Penny Gadzini is a retired Pastor of St. James UMC, Lynbrook, New York. After graduating from Dowling College and a brief career as a pilot, Penny earned her M. Div. at Union Theological Seminary and has served UM congregations in Elmont, Maspeth, Astoria, and Babylon. She is a trained and experienced psychotherapist and earned her Doctor of Ministry at Andover Newton Theological School. Penny has taught Pastoral Care in several places and is the skipper of Sea Scout Ship 270 in Northport. With the scouts she is committed to nurturing young people age 14-21 to gain the knowledge and life skills they
need to become mariners capable of handling boats, navigation, weather, crew management, etc. as they plan and experience an annual Long Cruise. At the WaterFront Center in Oyster Bay, Penny serves as both sailing instructor and crew on the historic Oyster sloop Christeen. Penny became involved in the struggle for racial justice in 1985 when she and her soon-to-be husband, James, who is South African, were engaged in the anti-Apartheid movement. She and James are parents to a grown son.
