George Mintz is branch president of the Greater Bridgeport NAACP and has served as president of Juneteenth of Fairfield County since 2012, when he was appointed State Director, National Juneteenth Observance Foundation of America. He was named 'Man of the Year' by the State of Connecticut African-Affairs Commission in 2014 and has been honored with the 2014 P. T. Barnum-Lewis Latimer Award, the NAACP 2013 W.E.B. Du Bois Award and the Omega Psi Phi 2013 'Citizen of the Year' Award. George retired in 2008 as the Director of Student & Constituent Services at Columbia University, and in his spare time is a singer and a part-time history buff. He and his wife, Melba, reside in Bridgeport. They have four children and eight grandchildren and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in July 2014.
