Discover history’s lessons
Inspired by the story of the African captives of the Spanish schooner La Amistad, the recreated ship is a tribute to their courage and their important role in Connecticut’s history. Become part of Amistad’s enduring legacy as you join in discussions of present-day issues of freedom, equality and justice in America and the world.
Learn to sail a tall ship
Take part in the exciting adventure of living aboard the Amistad for two weeks. You and your shipmates will master new skills as you share the daily challenges and responsibilities of sailing a 129-foot vessel. Your evenings will be filled with guest speakers and artists, movies, music and games.
Explore our coast
Sail over 250 miles, from New London to New York and back. Explore Manhattan and visit the Statue of Liberty. Along the way, you’ll gain an appreciation for the history and natural beauty of Long Island Sound.
Visit public and private colleges and universities in Connecticut, including Eastern Connecticut State University, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and Yale University. Learn all about college life, meet current students, and explore the variety of academic and career paths that college study offers. You’ll also receive guidance on the application process, how to best present yourself to selective schools, and financial aid options.
This coed program is designed for current high school juniors, though sophomores may also apply. Priority consideration will be given to applicants who will be first-generation college students.
